Progressing from nursing to management

Vlad Vancea tells us about his journey with Hartford Care and how he started as a nurse and progressed to management.

I was previously employed by SCIO Healthcare and so I was already working at Highfield Nursing Home in Ryde, Isle of Wight, when Hartford Care took it over in 2018. My original role was as an RGN in which I started practising at the beginning of 2016.


I was promoted to Clinical Team Leader  in July 2018 after a taking  three-month career gap during my  Hartford Care employment. I was working as a Community Nurse but Andreea Buciuman, who was then Deputy Manager, insisted I returned and take up the CTL position.

When Andreea became Highfield’s manager, the deputy manager role became available in October 2019, so I applied and got it. This was a real change for me as I never had any personal goals in becoming a manager.  I was always more of a hands-on person.


Over the  years, I have received a range of training across all areas of my job and as a result, I have become more experienced and confident in my roles.  Andreea has been extremely supportive, and I have also received a great deal of advice and guidance from Nicky Barnes, our regional manager and Louise Taylor, Highfield’s administrator.

I would now like to start my  NVQ5 in Management to help me progress my skillset in my current role.

Career Opportunities

My advice to anybody looking to progress their careers with Hartford Care is to be patient but to seize the opportunity when it arises.
